Death's Inviting Gaze

January 26, 2007

The robins sing this morning
Coffee is brewing
Life rolls on

Yet
Just beneath the serenity
Underneath the smile
Wonder grows

The memories remain
So very near death
Trapped in the mire
Stranded all alone

No longer encased
In the cold steel of my fears
Free to move on
A new day rose

Yet
Just beneath the serenity
Underneath the smile
Wonder grows

Anxiety fed
Death's pleasing odor
Dead roses rotting
Resurrect the past

Shake away the webs
Look to the blue sky
Hope grows in the heart
Tasting love's morning dew

Yet
Just beneath the serenity
Underneath the smile
Wonder grows

Would this time be different?
Death beckons me so
Release me from the joy
Comfort me in the warmth of loss

Close the eyes to life
Let the music entice
Listen to the lonely heart
Cold steel's embrace

Yet
Just beneath the sorrow
Underneath the tear
Truth lights a candle
Illuminates the way home

Death's inviting gaze
Enticing, still today
But deep within the heart
Love is still the way
