Bite of the Serpent

May 7, 2006

Sweet smell of almonds
Emanating from the snake
Strikes out and bites
Poison floods my veins

For an instant of elation
Walked into the dark wood
Tempted by the serpent
Powerless to see the lies

Vision is growing dimmer
Venom's power overtaking
Lost in the darkness
Smile begins to fade

Fear in an instant overwhelms
Breathing impossibly fast
Intense flood of thoughts
Paralyzing flood of poison

I want to be the snake
Slither amongst the moss
No remorse for the pain
Bitterness of my skin in his mouth

And then the breathing slows
Tunnel closing in
and it
stops.
