Surveying
A landscape that stretches
Past forever
Into eternity

He soars
Just beneath the cumulous clouds
Above all the other winged beings
Above the horrors of a world of chaos

His eyes
Sharp, keen, aware
Search the landscape, beautiful in perspective
For his waiting prey

He freezes
The darkness was too sudden
To have been caused
By the cumulus clouds above

His fear was warranted
The hawk is swift and sure
The sharp pain fades
As quickly as it came

In a few short moments
A life, forever changed
By a moment of desire
By a moment of hunger

Surveying
A landscape that stretches
Past forever
Into eternity
