Shooting Stars

January 28, 2009

From distant space
They arrive in earth’s atmosphere
Cold stones, ice, elements
Crossing the path of Gaia

Entering the thin layers of air
They begin to warm
Friction turns the cold masses to fire
They light up the winter sky

Two hearts touch
As they gaze at the fleeting flashes
Of light streaming through a black sky
They share a moment of hope

Most of the meteors
Have disintegrated in the highest levels of air
Above an unknowing planet

But a few
Beat all the odds
And are seen by the lovers below
Gazing into a winter sky
