I stood in solemn contemplation
Glanced at the meaning of life
Where black meets white
Blending to quiet browns, royal violets, flowing reds
And decided in that instant
That I’d contemplated for quite long enough
It was time
Time for that proverbial leap
Into the quiet forevers
Of flowing and fiery life
Into the waiting inlet
Where waters stand chilled and blue
In never forgotten rays
From a once lost son

With a change of perspective
Perception moves
With a lighting of passion
The universe concedes
With a single match
All the old growth is taken
And new seeds
Find a waiting, scorched earth
