Your Soul's Purpose

It can be a little confusing, perhaps more than a little confusing, that much of our current “higher thought” movement is about, by and large, either destroying the ego or living in the present moment. How, if we see only the perfect Oneness of all Creation, can we also continue to dwell on the imperfection of the “ego”? How can we embrace our gifts, dreams, and hopes for a brighter tomorrow if we dwell only in this very instant?

Many of us are plagued with an inborn need to achieve some level of perfection in our thoughts. In our need to find perfect knowledge, we tend to want to see everything as black or white, as a choice of extreme opposites, as absolutes. “Either choose to reside in Love or be imprisoned for a thousand lives in fear.” “Only in the Present Moment will you ever find the truth, peace, and perfection.” I'm not so sure these extreme concepts that seem to be the mindset of so many on this path we share are really all that close to the truth.

When we seek to escape from duality, and we seek to make that escape by choosing either of only two (dual) choices, we put ourselves in the impossible position of always being stuck in that duality from which we wish to escape.

Faced with the choice of love or fear, I give strength to the duality that is the choice of love or fear. Choosing to see the world as either imperfect or perfect, I am destined to see them both, and not only see them both, but dwell in the perception that some magical choice of one or the other will bring me some sense of peace.

If I dwell on the idea that I must escape “duality” to know the Peace of the Truth, I can never find that Peace and Truth I seek. Duality is but the latest in a long line of lies and misperceptions designed to keep us from our True Selves, the True Selves that are utterly and truly connected to Love.

Why must duality be a problem? For as long as I see it as a problem, the more I give its myth power. Better to lovingly set aside this mistaken belief, this silly misperception.

If the one and only reason we are here on this earth, in this realm, is to find our way back to Love and Truth, it follows that there is no real purpose for this earth, this realm. But if we are Love, and if the universe is merely an illusion we've created, then Love must have created this illusion. Of course, at the level of Spirit, it is all illusion; nothing we “see” is as it appears. But that knowledge does not require us to not do all we can to love the place that is our home, whether temporary or not.

Perhaps it would be more loving for us to accept where we are, with unconditional love for all our surroundings and situations regardless of their absolute purpose or true form. It is quite possible to accept and embrace our place in the world and this realm and, at the same time, accept and embrace our place in heaven with God. This is not duality unless we choose to see it that way.

You are not in the wrong place. You are not a mistake. You are not merely some lost soul separated from your Home. This world is the right place for us or we wouldn't be here. To fight these truths is foolish, contentious, and unloving.

Who decided we needed to escape “duality” to know peace? Peace is found, not in escape, nor in contention, but in acceptance. It's time we escape the myth that our “duality” is a problem and find peace, in the now, where we can most clearly experience this existence, but also in the past, in its forms of shame, bitterness, and grief, and in the future, a future seen with thoughts of worry and doubt.

If the highest truths we know are those of Love, oneness, and peace, why then do we wish to cling to the folly that we are somehow deluding ourselves as children of this world? The two needn't be mutually exclusive. I am both born of human parents and of Love. I am both a citizen of the world and a citizen of heaven. These things I know to be true. This knowledge is not “duality” and it's not a problem. Accepting this, I can embrace the fullness of all of me and truly be a Light unto the world.

So, yes, we are all One, in perfect Unity, in perfect peace, in perfect Love, but also, we are each and all Unique and truly precious in that Uniqueness. This is the essence of One Plurality. This is the next stage in our evolution. This is the way of love, fulfillment, and peace.
