Chapter 4
Risking Nothing Yields Nothing
“Risk! Risk anything! Care no more for the opinions of others, for those voices. Do the hardest thing on earth for you. Act for yourself. Face the truth.” – Katherine Mansfield
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” –
Anais Nin
A new age of vast and sweeping change and expansiveness is upon us. Like it or not, the world, the universe, the collective consciousness is changing and growing. It's becoming more and more difficult to remain in our old beliefs as this new knowledge is thrust upon us.
It's time to go out and to be our highest dreams, to live largely and abundantly, to act blissfully and to blissfully act. It's time to leap into the unknown, leaving the safety of the past. The net is not actualized until we leap.
Sure, it's risky. But without great risk there is rarely (never?) great reward. Think for a moment of your past. How much risk was involved in your greatest accomplishments? How rewarding are gifts that aren't earned by the fruit of risk? And conversely, how many regrets do you have because of what might have been if only you'd been willing to take a bit more risk?
Unfortunately, most of us aren't going to risk major change until there's no real alternative. It's the ego's will to keep us stuck in fear and paralyzed from any real loving action that will prove the ego's songs are untrue.
Taking risks will almost certainly result in loss. As we shed our old smaller selves and dive into the new larger more willing selves, we don't quite fit in some of our old relationships, situations, or beliefs. We have to let them go so that we can grow to become the people we were destined to be.
But the rewards are rich and substantial. We have to get to a place where we know that this is true. We release the old lies and leap into a brand new present and a hopeful future.
Or not. And we slowly wither and die. Free will still exists. And some people won't take these risks. And they won't grow. And they won't prosper. What's your choice?
In the end, we each have to take that leap for ourselves. Nonetheless, there are a few things we can do to prepare.
• Write your vision – A clear written expression of what you are becoming, and the rewards you intend to receive will bolster you.
• Find support – Collaboration and support groups can help in that you will find people who are on the “other side”, who have been in the place you are and have successfully taken the leap into prosperity.
• Release old beliefs – Work with professionals in emotional release can be beneficial. Don't let the past keep you from a brilliant future.
• Leap! – Take a little time to breathe and get centered, then, as Nike says “Just do it.”
